Avocado & Coconut Oils - What they are and why we use them in our Instant Pho!
Anyone who is anyone right now has probably heard of the benefits of coconut oil – but what about Avocado oil? Sure, the Avocado has become more and more popular in recent years – there are even bars and restaurants specifically dedicated to them! But what do we actually know about the nutritional values of either food source? Are they really good for you or is the scientific fact a little more complex than that?
Here at Naughty Noah's we thought we would take this opportunity to share our knowledge of two of our favorite foods with our delightful customers... because once you know just how healthy they are, our instant Pho Noodles become that bit tastier!
The Avocado is healthy, right?
Not only is the Avocado a tasty treat (made tastier with just a tiny pinch of salt and pepper) it is also a known super-fruit with a deliciously creamy texture.
When it comes to nutrients this little fruit really packs a punch! With more than twenty different vitamins and minerals and one of the only fruit-based sources of heart healthy fatty acids – the Avocado helps make Naughty Noah's instant pho noodle soup a truly scrumptious dish!
One third of an Avocado gives you only 80 calories, contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and phosphorus, gives you a daily boost of Zinc and even contains the slightly elusive manganese. All of these minerals have complex and vital jobs in maintaining our health and keep our bodies functioning correctly.
Iron will help you regenerate red blood cells, Calcium will give you strong teeth and bones, and the others all have their individual little jobs to do, too. Such as create new DNA, build new cells and strengthen muscles. By getting plenty of minerals in our diet we optimise performance in all aspects of our lives. Likewise, vitamins have very similar jobs with many of them helping absorption of minerals into the body as a standard side effect.
Most vitamins are water soluble, meaning that you can't eat too many, and the humble Avocado is filled with them! It contains Vitamins A, D, E and K, all of which have important tasks to do. For example; Vitamin E helps keep your skin clear and fresh, while Vitamin K is good for the eyes. Strangely, Avocado's are one of the few foods that actually contain Vitamin D (which helps the body produce antibodies and fight free radicals) since our bodies normally make it from sunlight!
So, as you can see, there are many different reasons why Avocados are so good for you, which is why we have chosen to use Avocado Oils in some of our most popular Vietnamese instant pho noodle soups!
We're Coconut Crazy!
The Coconut is a natural source of protein and dietary fiber for anyone trapped on a desert island; but it is also a low sodium, healthy treat when slightly sweetened. It is exceedingly rich in B Vitamins, all of which help the body to produce enzymes, regulate hormones and digest foods. As well as B Vitamins they include Vitamins C and E. While E is good for the skin Vitamin C is well known for its ability to 'refresh' the body – thus the tradition of footballers eating oranges at half time!
Vitamin C will also help speed the absorption of Calcium, Magnesium and other bone building minerals into the body. Coconuts are high in Iron, Magnesium, Calcium and Phosphorus, but also in the harder to find mineral Selenium, which is useful for reproduction and creating new DNA, and which pregnant women might benefit from eating more of.
Coconuts go farther than vitamins and minerals to! They contain an active compound that helps to lower bad cholesterol levels while simultaneously raising 'good' cholesterol levels. Modern trends are seeing Coconut oil and butter being applied to everything. It makes good face and eye cream due to the high Vitamin content, it works well against problem or dry skin, it can be eaten, used to treat chapped lips and can be used in weight loss programs. With so many uses, we sometimes forget that this superfood can do wonders on the inside as well – but here at Naughty Noah's we know that a good Coconut is hard to replace.
How do you get oil from a Coconut or an Avocado? You press, you squeeze and you compress until all of those gorgeous compacted flavours are squished out in oil form. The absolutely healthiest oils out there are cold compressed without any heat at all – just like the oils we use at Naughty Noah's! Cold pressed oils do not use chemical solvents, deodorants or bleaches that give you nasty side effects and give you one hundred percent of the goodness contained within. By using cold pressed avocado and coconut oils, we’re able create a wide range of flavours for our Naughty Noah’s Vietnamese Instant Pho Noodles while adding tons of nutrients… to us it’s a no brainer!
